Are Stylish Names Allowed on Facebook? What Triggers a Name Review (2026)

Are stylish names allowed on Facebook: what passes, what is risky, what is rejected

Stylish names are only partly allowed on Facebook. Its name standards ban symbols, numbers, unusual capitalisation, repeated characters and mixed languages in a profile name, so decorated names get rejected, bold or script letters are risky, and plain letters in one language pass.

Facebook’s name standards in plain words

Facebook’s Help Center page Names allowed on Facebook says your profile name should be the name you use in everyday life and lists what it cannot include:

  • Symbols, numbers, unusual capitalisation, repeating characters or punctuation.
  • Characters from multiple languages.
  • Titles of any kind, such as professional or religious titles.
  • Words or phrases in place of a name.
  • Offensive or suggestive words.

Nicknames are allowed as a first or middle name if they are a variation of your real name, and other names (like a maiden name or a nickname) can be added separately.

Are stylish names allowed on Facebook: what the name standards ban

Why bold and script letters are “risky”, not “rejected”

Letters like 𝐙𝐚𝐢𝐝 or 𝒵𝒶𝒾𝒹 are not a font. They are mathematical symbols from the Unicode table that happen to look like letters. Facebook’s check does not always catch them at the moment you save, so some people see them accepted. Because they are technically symbols, Facebook can still ask you to change the name later, and you then lose one of your limited name changes.

What a name review looks like

If Facebook does not accept a new name, it is simply not saved and you keep your old one. If a name was saved but later looks wrong to Facebook, you may be asked to change it or to confirm your name, for example with an ID document, through the steps Facebook shows on screen. Follow those steps with your real name; do not try to get around them.

Safe places for risky and rejected styles

  • Other names: add a nickname that can show next to your main name.
  • Bio (intro): up to 101 characters, symbols and emoji allowed.
  • Posts, comments and chats: decorate as much as you like.
  • Messenger chat nicknames: set per conversation, not reviewed as a profile name.

Did your name pass Facebook?

Tried one of these on your profile? Email [email protected] with the exact name (copy and paste it), whether Facebook accepted it, asked you to change it or rejected it, and the date. Do not send your profile link or login details. The NickFB Editorial Team checks every report before a verdict changes and never publishes who sent it.

FAQ

Is it legal to use a fake name on Facebook?

Facebook’s rules ask for the name you use in everyday life, and accounts with fake names can be restricted. A stylish version of your real name is a different thing: the plain version passes, styled letters are risky.

How to make an FB name stylish?

Keep the main name plain and add style where Facebook allows it: a nickname in Other names, symbols in your bio, and decorated nicknames in Messenger chats.

What names are allowed on Facebook?

Names in one language, with ordinary letters and capitals, without symbols, numbers, titles or words that are not a name. Variations of your real name, like a short form, are allowed.

What special characters are allowed in Facebook names?

Accented letters from real languages (é, ö, ñ) and an apostrophe or hyphen that is part of a real name are normal. Symbols, emoji, stars, hearts and frames are not allowed in the profile name.
